The Staffing Resource Group has the pleasure of working with all different types of professionals each and every day. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there have undoubtedly been some champions that have arisen from the chaos. This month, we are highlighting one of those champions, Chris Wilhoite.

Wilhoite is a Senior Training Specialist at Catalent Biologic. He discusses how his previous experience in the Navy later lined him up with a job in development. While that career path may not make sense to many people, it made sense for Wilhoite. Below he chats about how his career path was not necessarily linear and much of his career has been spent learning from his peers.

For him, the key to success in his career has been pursuing knowledge and striving to empower others with that knowledge. We are happy to present Wilhoite as the COVID Champion for this month and talk to him about what has kept him inspired in his career.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A: Knowledge is power and you spreading the knowledge empowers others.

Q: What inspired you to get into your current career?

A: It was my third year in the Navy, and I was attending training on warships and submarines. The material was fascinating, but the training structure was a HOT MESS and everywhere across the board.  I then accepted the challenge of making it better and more understanding for my peers. I have been involved with training and training development since.

Q: What skill have you gained from working at Catalent?

A: Honed in the skill of staying focused since I have been working from home since October 2019.

Q: What’s the most interesting or unusual job you’ve ever had?

A: I served in the US Navy for 23 years, 11 years were on three different submarines, and 12 years in training and training development. If you combine all my time underwater it would equate to about 5.5 years.

Q: What would you tell others about getting into a similar career path?

A: Have fun with it. Knowledge is power and you spreading the knowledge empowers others.

Q: Favorite movie, quote, travel destination, etc…

A: “Everything happens for a reason.” – Aristotle

Q: What’s one thing you would tell a younger you?

A: Don’t be afraid to say no and let go earlier.
